Rifle Heads to Georgia Southern and Citadel for Three-Match Road Trip

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks rifle team hits the road for the first time this season. They'll shoot at Georgia Southern before heading to The Citadel for two matches.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are back in action following a historic start to the season two weeks ago. They hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range and TVSA for two matches. On day one, the Nanooks shot an impressive season-opening score of 4722, knocking-off OSU, 4722-4672. Rylan Kissell took the individual win, shooting an 1186 with a 587 in smallbore and 599 in air rifle. Sára Karasová took second with an 1179. Kellen McAferty scored the same, taking third. 
 
The Nanooks then came back on day two, shooting a new program-record, 4734 including a 2360 in smallbore and 2374 in air. Kissell shot a new career-high, 1193 aggregate. He took the individual win, again, with Karasová behind with an 1185. Gavin Barnick took third, shooting an 1180 aggregate. 
 
Rankings
The Nanooks enter this weekend as the #1 team in the nation for the second-consecutive week. On the season, the Nanooks, through two matches, have averaged 4728. Following closely behind is West Virginia, shooting an aggregate average of 4726.5. 
 
Dynamic Duo
Kissell and Karasová have teamed up, creating a dynamic duo through the first two matches of the week. Kissell's 1193-aggregate score is the best in the NCAA so far. Karasová shot the tied-for-ninth best aggregate in the nation with her 1185 on Oct. 16 during the Nanooks record-breaking match at TVSA.
 
Meet the Opponents
 
Georgia Southern
Ashley Judson has led the way for Georgia Southern this season, posting a season-high 1165-aggregate score on two separate occasions. On Oct. 1, Judson shot a 573 smallbore and 592 air for an 1165 at Morehead State. Her second time came at home as she shot a 578 smallbore and 587 air rifle. She holds Georgia Southern's next best score, an 1164. 
 
To start the season, Georgia Southern dropped their first two matches at Morehead State, 4674-4603 and 4663-4580. They returned home and have won their last two, defeating North Georgia 4576-4548 and Alabama Birmingham 4612-4542. 
 
The Citadel
The Citadel is riding a three-match losing streak into their meetings with the Nanooks this weekend. After grabbing their first win of the season on Oct. 2 vs. Alabama Birmingham, the Bulldogs have dropped matches against Jacksonville State, Nebraska and TCU. On the women's team, The Citadel is led by Riley Neiders, who has an average aggregate of 1112.4. She has shot an average of 545.8 in smallbore and 566.6 in air, including a season-high, 1133 on Oct. 16 at home against Nebraska.
 
Charlotte Welsh holds the season-high aggregate for the Citadel this season, shooting an 1156 on Oct. 9 at Jacksonville State. She shot a 573 in smallbore and added a 583 in air. This is the first time Alaska has shot against The Citadel since Jan. 10, 2018 in the 2017-18 season. The Nanooks are 4-0 over the last decade against the Bulldogs.
