OMAHA, Neb. – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team fell to Omaha on Sunday, Oct. 17. An early 1-0 lead was met by five unanswered goals for the Mavs as they knocked-off Alaska 1-5, dropping the 'Nooks to 1-3-0 on the season.
Antti Virtanen got the scoring started for the Nanooks in the first period with a goal four minutes into the opening-period. After
Filip Fornaa Svensson played the puck to
Didrik Henbrant, Virtanen was found in front of the net, sneaking the puck past the Omaha netminder. Unfortunately, that was all the Nanooks could find. They took the lead into the second period but Omaha tacked on three in the second.
Taylor Ward tied it up midway through the second before Chayse Primeau gave the Mavs the lead seven minutes later. Just before the end of the second, Omaha struck, once again, as Brannon McManus scored with less than a second left on the clock while on the power play. Omaha added two more in the third, the first coming 5:56 into the period on Primeau's second before Ward found the back of the net one more time, while on the power play, 8:21 into the final stanza.
This loss dropped Alaska to 1-3-0 on the season. They will continue their road trip next week with a rematch at Clarkson before Cornell the following weekend.
