ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team fell in straight-sets to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Alaska Airlines Center. This loss drops the Nanooks to 13-8, 6-3 GNAC.

Set one went the way of the Seawolves, 23-25. Despite the Nanooks only being outhit 10-11 kills, 10 Nanooks errors played the difference as UAA only surrendered five. Set two saw a clear advantage for the Seawolves as UAA posted 19 kills to the Nanooks seven. The third was even-matched, but Alaska fell, 22-25, being outhit 9-11 in kills and .172 to 0 in hit percentage.

In the opening-set, Alaska found an early 3-0 lead with AveRee Reynolds and Karli Nielson kills. UAA quickly grabbed the lead back before the 'Nooks went on their own run. After an 8-4 lead for the Nanooks, UAA rallied to tie it at 11-11. Points were traded until a 15-15 tie when UAA ran out to a 15-21 lead. The Nanooks rushed back, tying it at 23-23 before UAA closed it out, 23-25. The second set was all UAA from the get-go. The Seawolves quickly jumped out to a 5-13 lead, stretching it to 7-16 soon after. Alaska made a run of five points in six points, pulling within five at 12-17, however, it was not enough. UAA turned away their run attempt, making it 12-23 before winning the middle set, 16-25.

The final set saw Alaska trail early, but battle back to tie it at 7-7 on a kill from Cate Whiting and Reynolds. They used the momentum to string together six-straight points, taking a 14-10 lead. UAA had an answer, however, putting together their own six-point run, retaking the lead. Whiting connected on another kill, ending their run, but UAA used the momentum swing to their advantage one last time, pushing their lead to 19-23, eventually defeating the 'Nooks, 22-25.
