Nanooks Rifle Hosts Air Force Academy on Jan. 23-24

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The #5-ranked Alaska Nanooks rifle team is back in action this weekend. They host the #7-ranked Air Force Academy and will face-off on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range in the Patty Center and again on Sunday, Jan. 24 at TVSA. The Nanooks currently hold a 3-3, 0-2 PRC record as they look for their first conference victory this weekend.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks host the U.S. Air Force Academy one week after their home-opener versus Texas Christian. The Horned Frogs swept the 'Nooks at home. Alaska managed a season-high 4703 on Friday, Jan. 15 but it wasn't enough as TCU picked up the victory 4722-4703. On Sunday, Jan. 17, TCU came back and bested the 'Nooks once again by a score of 4733-4685.

Air Force 
Air Force finds themselves 4-2 on the season and this weekend's match with Alaska will be their PRC-opener. They currently find themselves ranked #7 in the CRCA rankings and are coming off of a loss to Nebraska a week ago on Jan. 17. Their top scorers from a week ago were Morgan Kreb who shot an aggregate of 1178, Peter Fiori, who shot a 1174, Peninah D'Souza, who shot a 1163 and Ryan Habeck, who put up an aggregate score of 1159. 
 
Current CRCA Rankings
The Nanooks find themselves clinging on to a top-five ranking in the current CRCA rankings. After climbing to as high as #4, they settled back to the #5 spot. Kentucky, Ole Miss and TCU are all tied for the #1 spot in the NCAA. Next in line, just ahead of the Nanooks are the West Virginia Mountaineers. Memphis is in the #6 spot and this weekend's opponent, the Air Force Academy, is #7 in the rankings. 
 
What's to Come
Following this weekend's matchup with the Air Force Academy, the Nanooks will head to Columbus, Ohio where they will take part in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, hosted by Ohio State University. Post PRC Championships, the 'Nooks return home to host an NCAA Qualifying match. One they have completed their qualifiers, the Nanooks will wait and see if their name is called in the NCAA Rifle Championships selection show. If qualified, the 'Nooks would take off for Columbus, Ohio one last time for the NCAA Rifle Championships on March 10-11, 2021. 
 
No Fans
Due to COVID-19, the Nanooks rifle team and administration have announced that no fans or spectators will be permitted at any home events. All pre and postgame interviews will be held via Zoom. All media members must get in touch with the Alaska Nanooks Sports Information Office or Building Maintenance for interview availability and access.
