GNAC Release

PORTLAND –
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference released the 2019-20 GNAC Academic All-Sports Awards on Friday morning, with the Alaska Nanooks ranking in the top-three in two different sports. The Alaska Nanooks men's cross country team ranked first among their peers for the 2019 season, while the Nanooks volleyball team placed third.

The GNAC Academic All-Sports Awards are based on the cumulative grade point average of all the athletes on the official team rosters, including redshirts. Points are awarded on two-point increments.

Unlike several of the other GNAC schools, Alaska only participates in five of their 15 conference-sponsored sports (men's basketball, men's cross country running, women's basketball, women's cross country running and volleyball). For the third-straight year, the now defunct-Concordia University took the overall top conference title with 177 points, followed by Seattle Pacific (167), Northwest Nazarene (162), Central Washington (148) and Saint Martin's (136) rounding-out the top-five overall.

The men's top-five consisted of Concordia (85), Central Washington (70), Seattle Pacific (66), Northwest Nazarene (58) and Saint Martin's (57). The top-five schools in the women's category were as followed: Northwest Nazarene (104), Seattle Pacific (101), Concordia (92), Montana State Billings and Saint Martin's with a two-way tie at 79 each.

The Alaska Nanooks men's cross country team placed first amongst their GNAC peers in the men's top-three teams by sport category with a 3.51 team grade point average. Seattle Pacific placed second with a team GPA of 3.39, followed by Central Washington with 3.36.

The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team rounded out the top-three in the women top-three teams by sport category with a team GPA of 3.59. Northwest Nazarene placed first among other GNAC volleyball teams with a 3.75 team GPA, followed by Central Washington with a 3.65 team GPA.
