CoSIDA Release
FAIRBANKS – On Thursday, two Alaska Nanooks were named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Rifle sophomore
Morgan Erickson and Nordic ski's redshirt-senior
Tristan Sayre were two of 10 NCAA Division II male honorees from District Eight, which encompasses the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the Pacific West Conference (PacWest).
The CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom and separately recognizes outstanding student-athletes in four divisions - NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA.
The At-Large All-District honorees will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is an NCAA Division II school, with one NCAA Division I program (ice hockey) and three multi-divisional programs (coed rifle, men's and women's Nordic ski). Erickson and Sayre were two of three selections within the GNAC.
In his first-ever national academic accolade, Erickson has accumulated a 3.98 grade point average at UAF in only his second season as a Nanook. Additionally, Erickson has already completed his undergraduate requirements as a sophomore and will be receiving his bachelor's degree in Justice Administration in tomorrow's UAF commencement ceremony. Erickson still has two years of eligibility with the Alaska Nanooks rifle team.
After taking a redshirt season in 2017-18 to do an exchange program, Sayre closed out the 2019-20 ski season boasting a 3.92 cumulative GPA and a perfect 4.00 GPA in his graduate studies at UAF. Sayre studies Civil Engineering.
