ASPEN, Colo. – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team sent one participant to the RMISA Qualifier this weekend.
Lukash Platil was the chosen racer by the Nanooks, participating in a 10km Freestyle the morning of Saturday, Feb. 8.
Platil, a redshirt junior from Thornton, Colo. was able to return home for the weekend and race in the high-elevation race. Head coach Eliska Albrigsten said early in the week that, "it would be tough to add two extra weeks on the road to the team," and "the altitude would not be a big change for him [Platil] since he lives in Colorado."
The Nanook racer on the first day of RMISA Qualifiers, put up a time of 32:12.9, placing him 23rd overall in the men's category. Platil will be the lone Nanook racer on Sunday as well, when he returns for a 21km Classic Mass Start. The Sunday race will also be a citizen race, a long lasting tradition called the Owl Creek Chase.
