MINTURN, Colo. – The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic team wrapped up day one at the Denver University Invite on Saturday, Jan. 25. Both teams sent six racers through the finish line in the classic individual start race.
On the men's side, Tristan Sayre was the top-finisher for the 'Nooks after he grabbed 15
th place overall with a time of 31:27.6. Close behind Sayre was
Logan Mowry. Mowry ended the race only two spots behind, in 17
thwith a time of 31:53.0.
Christopher Kalev and
Lukash Platil were in the middle of the pack for the Nanooks with placements of 23
rd and 25
th and times of 32:36.6 and 32:58.1. Rounding out day one for Alaska was
Mike Ophoff and
Patrick Marbacher who finished in 27
th and 38
th.
All six men's racers competed in the senior class ranking and will all compete tomorrow in the pursuit race at 9:00 a.m. MT.
As for the women's racers, five of six for Alaska competed in the senior class while
Sarah Olson competed in the U20 female class.
Mariel Pulles was the leader of the pack for the Nanooks as she claimed a 14
th place finish on day one with a time of 18:02.6. Behind her was
Anja Maijala, who finished 20
th with an 18:20.4 showing.
Catherine Reed-Metayer and Hannah Deuling were next for the 'Nooks with close times of 19:00.5 and 19:05.5 while Olson and Rya Berrigan rounded out the final two Alaska racers with places of 57
th and 59
th.
The racers get ready to race again tomorrow right after the men, beginning at 10:00 a.m. MT. They too will be competing in a pursuit race, using today's finishes as their starting point tomorrow to chase the leader.
