PALMER, Alaska –
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams opened up the 70th annual Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships and 2019 NCAA West Regional Championships at the Government Peak Park on Wednesday morning, competing in the 10/5km freestyle races.

As a program, the Nanooks currently rank sixth in the Nordic team point rankings with 103 points. Alaska sits in fifth with 54 points, while the men also rank fifth with 49 points.

Like the last two races, senior Kati Roivas was the highest-finishing Nanook of the day, placing eighth overall in a field of 35 skiers. Roivas crossed the finish line in 15:51.5, collecting 23 points.

Utah's Guro Jordheim placed first overall in the women's 5km freestyle race, posting a time of 15:05.6.

Sophomore Anja Miajala registered a top-15 finish on Wednesday, placing 11th overall with a time of 16:01.7 for 21 points. Fellow sophomore Hannah Dueling rounded-out Alaska's top-three women with a 31st place finish, posting a time of 18:28.9.

In the men's 10km freestyle, senior Max Donaldson ranked first among his teammates, ninth overall with a time of 27:53.3 for 22 points.

Colorado's Erik Olsvik Dengerud placed first overall with a time of 26:51.3.

Redshirt-senior Seiji Takagi placed 20th in the men's race, posting a time of 28:44.6 for 15 points. Fellow senior Arnaud Guyon collected a time of 28:49.9, placing him 23rd overall in a field of 40 skiers.

The RMISA Conference Championships and West Regional Championships continue on Friday, Feb. 22, as the Nooks are set to compete in the 20/15km classic race at the Government Peak Park in Palmer, Alaska.
