Guyon, Maijala Lead @AlaskaNanooksXC in Final Day of NMU Invite

– The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams closed out the 2019 New Mexico Invitational on Saturday morning, competing in the 5km freestyle race at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area. The results of the two-day invitational will count in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association rankings.

The Nanook men posted 51 points to rank fifth on Saturday, while the Alaska women collected 40 points with three finishers to place seventh as a team.

In the men's race, four of Alaska's five skiers finished in a pack, ranking 13th through 16th in a field of 31. Senior Arnaud Guyon was the highest-finishing Nanook in the men's race, posting a time of 15:10.0. Guyon's time ranked him 13th overall, giving the Nanooks 18 points.

Redshirt-senior Seiji Takagi followed directly behind with a time of 15:12.3 to rank 14th, followed by redshirt-junior Lukash Platil, who posted a time of 15:15.2 for 14th place.

Rounding out Alaska's top-five finishers was senior Max Donaldson (15:15.9) and senior Tristan Sayre (16:06.4), who finished 16th and 27th, respectively.

Sophomore Anja Maijala was the first Alaska skier to cross the finish line in the women's 5km race on Saturday, placing 15th overall with a time of 18:19.5. Maijala's time earned the Alaska women 17 points on the day.

Sophomore Hannah Dueling ranked 21st with a time of 19:15.8, while freshman Kirsys Campbell placed 22nd with a time of 20:20.3 to round-out the Nanooks.

The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams will return home before competing in the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational at Kincaid Park in Anchorage on Sunday, Feb. 17 and Monday, Feb. 18.
