ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams opened up the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational at Kincaid Park on Sunday, competing in the 10km freestyle race.
The Nanooks ranked fifth overall with 109 points, with the Alaska women placing fourth in the Nordic women's team ranking with 61 points, while the Nanook men placed fifth with 48 points.
Senior
Kati Roivas was the highest-finishing Nanook on the day, placing fourth overall in the women's 10km freestyle race. In a field of 32 skiers, Roivas posted a time of 31:55.4, only 46 seconds behind DU's Jasmi Joensuu, who placed first overall with a time of 31:09.4
Sophomore
Anja Maijala was the second Nook to cross the finish line, placing 13th overall with a time of 32:57.9. Fellow sophomore
Hannah Dueling closed-out Alaska's top-three individuals, posting a time of 37:34.2 to rank 29th overall.
Rounding-out Alaska's top-five was freshman
Kirsys Campbell (37:52.5) and sophomore
Sage Robine (38:11.6), placing 30th and 31st, respectively.
In the men's 10km freestyle race, redshirt-senior
Seiji Takagi was the first Nook to cross the finish line, ranking 13th overall with a time of 28:12.1.
New Mexico's Kornelius Groev posted the fastest time of the day, registering a first-place time of 27:16.3.
Fellow senior
Arnaud Guyon had the second-fastest time among the Nanooks, placing 16th overall with a time of 28:23.7. Senior
Max Donaldson ranked third among his teammates, 20th overall with a time of 28:52.0.
Rounding-out Alaska's top-five finishers was redshirt-senior Tristan Sayre (29:25.5) and redshirt-freshman
Logan Mowry (29:32.2), who ranked 27th and 28th overall, respectively.
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams will be back in action at Kincaid Park tomorrow (Monday, Feb. 18), as they are set to compete in the classic sprint races.
