@NanooksHockey Blanked at #16 Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team suffered an 8-0 loss on the road at the hands of the No. 16th-ranked Bowling Green Falcons in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest at the Slater Family Ice Arena on Friday afternoon. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 9-18-2 and 9-13-1-1 in conference play, while the Falcons improve to 19-8-3 on the season and 14-7-2-2 in league matchups.

At the time of article, Bowling Green walks away with three WCHA points from Friday's victory, placing them second in the league standings with 46 points. The Nooks earn zero points from Friday's loss but they remain seated in seventh place in the WCHA rankings with 29 points.

Bowling Green capitalized early on the Nanooks, with BGSU's Stephen Baylis opening up the scoring with an even-strength goal at the 6:30 mark of the first period. The Falcons then scored two more goals, including one on the man-advantage, totaling three goals in a matter of 2:25. Before the first 20 minutes concluded, Bowling Green scored another goal on the power play, taking a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Falcons scored twice in the second stanza, including a shorthanded tally, before scoring twice-more in the third period, including another shorthanded goal. BGSU's John Schilling led his teammates in points on the night, collecting four assists.

Alaska's rookie netminder Gustavs Grigals played the first 8:55 of the game for the Nanooks, collecting six saves before being relieved by junior goaltender Anton Martinsson, who made 25 saves for Alaska. On the other end of the ice, BGSU's Ryan Bednard tallied 14 saves on the night.

The Nanooks were unable to capitalize on the power play on Friday, going 0-for-8, while BGSU went 2-for-7 on the man-advantage.

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team will take on the Bowling Green Falcons again tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 16) in another WCHA road contest at the Slater Family Ice Arena. Puck-drop is set for 3:07pm AKST.
