@NanooksHockey Heads to Northern Michigan this Weekend

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team heads to Marquette, Michigan this weekend to face off with the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The Wildcats find themselves 6-2-2, 4-0-0-0 WCHA and tied at the top of the WCHA Standings with the Nanooks who are 6-6-0, 4-2-0-0 WCHA.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is coming off of a series split at home against the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Nanooks won the first game of the weekend on Friday, Nov. 8, 4-3 behind a late, game-winning-goal by Kylar Hope. Filip Fornaa Svensson and Caleb Hite both recorded their first career goals in the Friday victory as well.

In game two, the Sun Devils ran away from Alaska early. They grabbed two goals late in the first period and tacked on two more in the third period to claim a 0-4 victory over the Nanooks.

Marquette Trip
This weekend will be the first time Alaska travelled to Marquette, Mich. since the 2018-19 WCHA Playoffs. Unfortunately, the Nanooks fell in both games of the playoffs last season, 4-5 in the first game and 3-4 in the second.

More Votes
After a big win over Arizona State on Friday, the Nanooks kept receiving votes in the USCHO Hockey Poll. This week they received five votes while last weekend's opponent, Arizona State was just ahead of them with seven votes. Brown also received five votes in the latest poll, tying them with Alaska on the list.

FFFS (First for Fornaa Svensson)
Freshman, F, Filip Fornaa Svensson grabbed his first goals of his young-career with Alaksa. The Linkoping, Sweden-native had gone seven games without grabbing his first collegiate point. On Friday, Nov. 8 against Arizona State he struck for a pair of goals, giving the Nanooks an early 2-0 lead in their eventual 4-3 victory.

Hite Grabs his First
Caleb Hite added to his career-firsts as well, scoring his first collegiate goal in game one against Arizona State. After Fornaa Svensson pushed across his first two, Hite extended the Nanooks lead, giving the Nanooks their third goal of the night.

Scouting the Opponent – Northern Michigan Wildcats
The Wildcats are coming off of a 3-3 tie and 5-4 loss at home against Saint Cloud State on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. The tie and loss dropped NMU to 6-2-2 overall on the season. They are tied for first with the Nanooks in the point category for the WCHA with a 4-0-0-0 WCHA record.

The Wilcats are led in points by sophomore, forward, Griffin Loughran, who has 12 points on the season with eight goals and four assists. Just behind Loughran is another sophomore, forward, Vincent de Mey with nine points, seven goals and two assists. The top goaltender for the Wildcats is John Hawthorne, who has split time with Nolan Kent but has the better goals allowed average with 2.45 and win percentage of .875 (3-0-1). He also boasts a .917 save percentage.
