FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team fell in the first of two against Bemidji State on Nov. 1. This loss drops the Nanooks under .500 to 4-5-0, 3-2-0-0 WCHA. 
 
The Nanooks found themselves outshooting the Bemidji State Beavers after the first period, but the Beavers found the only goal in the beginning. 5:59 into the game, Brad Johnson took a pass from Aaron Miller and Elias Rosen and snuck a one-timer past So., G, Gustavs Grigals of the 'Nooks. Heading into the opening intermission, Alaska had 10 shots on goal to only Bemidji's three. Kylar Hope, the Sr., F for Alaska had the best opportunity with a breakaway chanced, unfortunately Zach Driscoll, the BSU goalie snapped his left leg across the blue to pin the puck up against the post, keeping the Nanooks off the board. 
 
Bemidji State came out in the second period and extended their lead off the bat. 4:38 into the second period the Beavers added their first of two in the second period when Hampus Sjodahl took a shorthanded puck and put it past Grigals with an assist from Alex Ierullo. Just under 12 minutes later, the Beavs made it 3-0. Charlie Combs took a pass from Adam Brady and Owen Sillinger sending a top-shelf shot past the head of Grigals, extending the BSU lead.
 
Heading into the second intermission, the Nanooks were still outshooting the Beavers , 22-13 but could not buy a goal.
 
All the way until end the game, the Nanooks were still finding opportunities. With 16 shots in the third period, a game-high, the 'Nooks were unable to put anything past Driscoll, who ended the night with 39 saves. 
 
Head coach Erik Largen had this to say following the loss to BSU, "You credit their play, but in the end we have to come out tomorrow and play better. Our guys are experienced and the leaders on the team will come back ready tomorrow."
 
The Beavers added one more goal in the third period, 14:52 into the final period on an empty net. Johnson put away the goal for his second of the night and of the season. 
 
Tomorrow, Nov. 2, will be the second and final game of this series. Game two is scheduled for a 7:07 p.m. AKT puck drop in Fairbanks at the Carlson Center.
