@NanooksRifle Celebrates Senior Day this Weekend

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks rifle team will end their 2019-20 home schedule this weekend against Ohio State and the defending national champion, Texas Christian University (TCU). This weekend will celebrate the two senior shooters for the Nanooks, Amy Gentry and Grace Nelson. The Nanooks are currently 2-0, 2-0 PRC and will look to grow their winning streak to four matches.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks rifle team had a few weeks to get ready for this weekend's matches. To start the season, the Nanooks hosted UTEP, The University of Texas at El Paso, and defeated the Miners in both matches of their two-day series. Day one, the Nanooks defeated UTEP, 4651-4579 and on day two, they were victorious, 4659-4583. Kellen McAfterty led the Nanooks and the field on both days.

Itinerary
The Nanooks will shoot against both Ohio State and TCU this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 11, the Nanooks will shoot against the Buckeyes, beginning at 9 a.m. After Relay 1 of both Smallbore and Air Rifle, there will be a lunch break for both teams and then the second half will consist of Relay 2 of Smallbore and Air Rifle.

On Saturday, at the Tanana Valley Sportsman Association, TCU and Ohio State will face off beginning at 9 a.m.

Sunday, TCU will come back to the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on the UAF campus and shoot against the Nanooks. The schedule will be the same as Friday; Relay 1 of Smallbore and Air Rifle will shoot first, beginning at 9 a.m.

Senior Day
The Nanooks will celebrate two of their top shooters, Amy Gentry and Grace Nelson, who following this season, will have left behind great careers as Nanook shooters. Gentry had her career best Air Rifle score of 593 against Ohio State last season on, Oct. 12. She was named the Bart LeBon Humanitarian of the Year last season. Gentry finished 29th in air and 32nd in smallbore at last season's Patriot Rifle Conference Championships.

Nelson also had her career high in Air Rifle against Ohio State last season with a score of, 591. She placed 30th in Air and 34th in smallbore at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships last season.
