SALEM, Ore. – The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's cross country running teams competed in their final meet of the 2019 regular-season this past weekend. The men's team took sixth overall place, the best finish of by a GNAC school, with 212 total points. The women's team took 16
th overall with a total of 414 points.
The Alaska men raced in an 8k through the fog on the morning of Oct. 5.
Lukash Platil was the first male runner to cross the finish line, finishing 23
rd overall with a time of 25:37.6.
Jacob Walsh was the next Nanook racer to finish, with a time of 25:54.4. This time was good enough for 36
th place. The 'Nooks scoring racers were able to all stay in the top 80, earning a 53
rd place finish out of
Jack Matherly, and a time of 26:25.2, a 60
th overall finish for
Mike Ophoff, who ran a time of 26:35.1 and
Zephan Ozturgut who claimed 66
th and a time of 26:40.4.
The Nanooks final racer,
Logan Mowry claimed the 80
th place finish with a time of 27:00.8, rounding out the men's 8k race.
As for the women, the Nanooks finished 16
th overall with 414 points and an average 5k time of 20:07. The women ran through the same climate and fog the men went through. The first Alaska women's runner to reach the finish line was Alexandria Bergholtz. She claimed the 25
th spot with a time of 18:45.1. The next 'Nooks runner wouldn't cross until
Mariel Pulles, who finished 92
nd overall with a time of 20:04.2.
Noelle Resignolo was close to follow at 95
th overall and a time of 20:09.0.
Rounding out the scores for the Nanooks were Catherine Reed Metayer. The So., took 130
th place with a time of 20:43.1, followed by
Rya Berrigan at 134
th and a time of 20:50.2.
Maggie Meeds was the final Nanooks racer to cross the finish line. She took 150
th with a time of 21:16.4 to put an end to the Alaska Nanooks men's and women's cross country regular-season.
Neither team has another meet scheduled until the GNAC Championships in Billings, Mont. on Oct. 26. Anyone who qualifies for the NCAA West Regionals following the GNAC Championships, will compete on Nov. 9 in Monmouth, Ore. as Western Oregon hosts that NCAA Region.
