UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team rebounded from their 0-7 loss to Penn State on Oct. 17 to knock off the #9/8 team in the nation on Friday, Oct. 18 with a 4-0 win, their second win all-time against the Nittany Lions. This win brings the Nanooks back to .500, improving to 3-3-0, 2-0-0-0 WCHA. 
 
Alaska started the game off with a bang, scoring 1:12 into the opening period as Colton Leiter took an unassisted puck and fired it top shelf past PSU starting goalie, Oskar Autio, the 'Nooks first goal on their road-trip to Pennsylvania. After being shut out the night before, Alaska felt the momentum and showed it. Leiter's goal was the only in the first period, but it was not all the 'Nooks would get. As for Penn State, nothing got past Sr., G, Anton Martinsson, who stopped 13 shots in the first period. 
 
Martinsson ended the game with 35 saves, and his fourth career shutout, keeping the Penn State attack at bay, a night after the Nanooks allowed seven goals. 
 
Head coach Erik Largen felt the team's response played a big part in grabbing this non-conference, road victory, "Tonight was a great response from our group. We played a selfless team game tonight. Now we need to reset and get ready for our in-state rivals next weekend."
 
The second period held promise for Alaska as Justin Young took a centering pass from Chris and Steven Jandric and slipped the puck past the goalkeeper, making it a 2-0 lead for the Nanooks. Early period goals seemed to be the story of tonight's victory as Young would add another goal, the third of the game, and his second of the night, 3:50 into the final period. 
 
Max Newton, the Nanooks junior, forward, added the fourth and final goal for Alaska on an unassisted puck out in front of the net. The Nanooks may not have won the shots on goal category, but they were efficient, putting away four goals on 23 shots and stopping all 35 shots that Penn State sent to the net. 
 
In the points category, Young led the way with two points on his two goals, while Didrik Henbrant, Eriks Zohovs, both Jandric brothers, Leiter and Newton checked in with a point a piece. 
 
Alaska will return to Fairbanks for the week before heading to Anchorage on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 for the first leg of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup at the UAA Sports Complex.
