MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team dropped their eighth-straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on the road on Saturday afternoon, falling 79-50 to the Western Oregon Wolves at the New P.E. Building in Monmouth. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 3-11 and 0-8 in conference play, while the Wolves improve to 6-8 on the season and 3-5 in GNAC games.
The Nanooks shot 29.5 percent from the field (18-for-61), 16.7 percent from the floor (3-for-18) and 91.7 percent from the free throw line. Alaska also picked up nine offensive and 20 defensive rebounds for a total of 29 boards on the day, while also chipping in 13 steals and seven assists.
Alaska was once again led offensively by senior forward
Marian Wamsley, who posted a team-best 11 points. Wamsley shot 4-for-9 from the field, including 1-for-1 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Wamsley picked up three rebounds in 18 minutes on the floor.
Fellow senior forward
Ashlie Blackburn was the only other Alaska player to tally double-digit points on Saturday, shooting 3-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line to register 10 points. Blackburn also led her teammates in rebounds with five, while also collecting one assist and one steal in 22 minutes on the court.
Redshirt-junior guard
Sabrina Ungaro led her teammates with three assists and five steals in 30 minutes on the court.
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team returns to the Alaska Airlines Court for a pair of GNAC contests next week, hosting the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Thursday, Jan. 24 before taking on the Saint Martin's Saints on Saturday, Jan. 26. Thursday's game will take place at 7pm AKST, while Saturday is set for 3pm AKST.
