Roivas, Guyon Post Top-10 Times at MSU Invite

BOZEMAN, Mont. –
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams were in action on Friday, kicking-off the 2019 Montana State University Invitational with the 5/10km individual-start, freestyle race at the Crosscut Mountain Sports Center. The MSU Invite is a two-day event that will count toward the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association rankings.

In the Nordic point leader breakdown, Alaska ranks sixth with a combined 106 points. In the Nordic women category, the Nooks sit in fifth place with 56 points, while the men also rank fifth with 50 points.

Senior Kati Roivas was the highest-finishing Nanook of the day, placing fourth overall in the women's 5km freestyle race. Roivas posted a time of 16:42.7 to tally 31 points for her highest finish of the season so far.

Utah's Guro Jordheim posted the fastest women's time of the day on Friday, crossing the finish line at 16:20.5.

Sophomore Anja Maijala was the second Alaska skier to cross the finish line on Friday, placing 17th overall with a time of 17:41.0, collecting 15 points. Fellow sophomore Hannah Dueling placed third among her teammates and 29th overall, posting a time of 19:53.8 for 10 points.

Freshmen Catherine Reed-Metayer (20:23.3) and Maggie Meeds (20:25.7) rounded-out Alaska's top-five skiers on Friday, placing 30th and 31st, respectively.

In the men's 10km freestyle, senior Arnaud Guyon placed 10th overall with a time of 30:21.9 for 22 points. New Mexico's Kornelius Groev had the fastest 10km time of the day, crossing the finish line at 28:10.0 for 40 points.

Senior Seiji Takagi tallied a time of 30:34.9 to rank 15th overall, collecting 17 points, followed by senior Max Donaldson (31:51.8) who placed 25th overall for 11 points.

Rounding out Alaska's top-five scorers was redshirt-junior Lukash Platil (33:15.2) and redshirt-senior Tristan Sayre (34:30.8), who placed 32nd and 33rd, respectively.

The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams will be back in action at the Crosscut Mountain Sports Center tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 19) with the 15/20km mass-start, classic race starting at 8am AKST.
