The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's ski teams finished in seventh and sixth place in Nordic skiing after day two of the Colorado Invitational at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs, Co.
"With the first competition in high altitude, the fatigue on the part of the team that raced a week before in Vermont at US Nationals was notable, however they all fought like true polar bears! Thanks to incredible performance of Senior Roivas the SkiNooks are traveling to the next races in Montana with a big smile and big eyes for more top ten results for the whole team," assistant coach
Eliska Albrigtsen said on Sunday.
Senior
Kati Roivas placed fourth in the women's 5km classic with a time of 33:57.2.
Followed by sophomore
Anja Maijala clocking in at 36:45.4 and 23rd place.
The third Nanook to finish was sophomore
Hannah Dueling placing 28th with a time of 38:57.4.
Freshman
Kirsys Campbell (30th) and freshman
Maggie Meeds (31st) round out the Nanooks top-five finishing with times of 39:32.6 and 39:40.6 respectively.
In the men's 10km classic redshirt sophomore
Lukash Platil was the highest ranked Nanook at 13th place with a time of 30:10.1.
Followed by redshirt senior
Seiji Takagi (20th) and senior
Tristan Sayre (21st) with times of 30:40.4 and 30:42.9 respectively.
Just inside the top-25 in 31:14.2 at 24th place was senior
Arnaud Goyon.
The fifth Nook to cross the finish line was senior
Max Donaldson with a time of 31:22.5.
Next the Nanooks head to the Crosscut Mountain Sports Center in Bozeman, MT for the Montana State University Invitational Friday Jan 18 to ski in the 10/5km freestyle.
