@NanooksVB Opens GNAC Play at Home

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team opens Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this week by hosting a pair of league opponents at the Alaska Airlines Court at the Patty Center. The Nooks will take on the Central Washington Wildcats on Thursday, Sept. 6 before taking on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Saturday, Sept. 8. Both matches are slated for a 7pm AKT start.

Where to Watch & Listen
If fans aren't able to make this weekend's games in Fairbanks, all Alaska Nanooks volleyball games for the remainder of the season (home and away) will be streamed live for free through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal (link posted above). Fans have the option to watch the stream, follow the live stats or both. Please be advised when on the road, Alaska volleyball games are produced and streamed through the respective home school.

Volleyball Block Party
The Alaska Nanooks will be hosting a Block Party outside the Patty Center prior to Thursday's (Sept. 6) match against Central Washington starting at 5:30pm AKT. The event is free and open to the public and will end at the start of Alaska's match vs. CWU at 7pm AKT. Alaska student-athletes will be on hand to man the grill and sign autographs and there will also be t-shirt giveaways and free food.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks continued nonconference play at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase last weekend, hosted by Dominican University of California in San Rafael, California. The Nooks went 0-4 on the weekend, falling to Cal State Monterey Bay (3-0) and Dominican (3-1) on Friday before dropping matches against Point Loma (3-0) and Cal State LA (3-1) on Saturday. The Nooks now sit with an overall record of 2-5.

All-Time Series
All-time against the CWU Wildcats, Alaska is 11-32 with the first meeting between the two teams coming as a 2-1 win on the road for the Nanooks on Oct. 18, 1980. Currently, Alaska is on a 15-match losing streak to the Wildcats dating back to Nov. 4, 2010. The Nooks' last win over Central Washington was a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 9, 2010. Alaska has taken the Wildcats to five sets in their last two meetings with the last match coming to a 3-2 decision in favor of CWU at home on Oct. 28, 2017.

Alaska has met the Nighthawks a total of 36 occasions, with the all-time series record being 12-24 in favor of NNU. The first meeting between the two programs was a 2-1 win for the Nanooks on Sept. 17, 1982. Currently, the Nooks are on a four-match losing streak to the Nighthawks with Alaska's last victory being a 3-2 decision on Nov. 5, 2015. In their last meeting, Alaska fell 3-1 to the Nighthawks at home on Oct. 26, 2017.
