BILLINGS, Mont. – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team closed out the 2017-18 season with a victory, posting a 69-59 Great Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets at the Alterowitz Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Nanooks conclude the season with a 11-15 record overall and 9-11 in conference play, while the Yellowjackets finish the regular season with a 13-17 record on the season and 5-14 record in league games.
As a team, Alaska shot 49.1 percent from the floor (26-for-53), 33.3 percent from three-point range (7-for-21) and 58.8 percent from the free throw lien (10-for-17). Alaska also registered seven offensive and 37 defensive rebounds totaling 44 boards against MSUB, while also collecting 11 assists, three blocks and two steals.
The Nanooks outscored their opponent 35-29 in the first half before edging the Yellowjackets 34-30 in the second.
The Nanooks were led offensively by junior forward
Joe Lendway, who shot 6-for-10 from the floor, 1-for-3 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to tally a team-high 15 points. The Kansas City, Kansas native also picked up eight rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes on the court.
Sophomore forward
Michael Kluting collected his 10th double-double of the season on Thursday, picking up 16 rebounds and 12 points. The Palmer, Alaska native shot 6-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-5 from three-point range, while also pulling down two offensive and 14 defensive boards.
At the time of article, the Nanooks finish the season ranking eighth in the conference standings with a 9-11 conference record and a .450 winning percentage.
With Thursday marking the end of a season, the Nanooks say goodbye to just one senior, forward
