FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team closed out their home games on Saturday with an hard-fought loss, as the Nooks dropped a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game 66-47 to the Seattle Pacific Falcons at the Alaska Airlines Court. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 4-20 and 0-18 in conference play, as the Falcons improve to 19-6 on the season and 13-5 in league matchups.
As a team, the Nanooks shot 35.4 percent from the field (17-for-48), 22.2 percent from three-point range (4-for-18) and 69.2 percent from the free throw line (9-for-13). The Nanooks also picked up five offensive and 28 defensive boards on the night, totaling 33 on the day. Additionally, Alaska chipped in six assists, six steals and three blocks.
Individually, sophomore guard
Kylie Wallace led all Nanooks in scoring with 14 points. Wallace shot 4-for-11 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line, while also tallying four rebounds and dished a team-best three assists.
Sophomore guard
Lexi Carpenter was the only other Alaska player to score double-digit figures on Saturday, shooting 5-for-14 from the floor, including 1-for-7 from beyond the arc to collect 11 points against the Falcons.
Not to be overshadowed, junior center
Josie Sewell had a monster night around the net, collecting two offensive and eight defensive rebounds for a team-high 10 boards.
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will hit the road to close out the GNAC regular season next week, taking on the Central Washington Wildcats on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6pm AKST in Ellensburg, Washington before facing the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 5pm AKST in Nampa, Idaho.
