BURNABY, B.C. – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team suffered a tough Great Northwest Athletic Conference loss on Thursday, falling 83-51 to the Simon Fraser Clan at the West Gymnasium in Burnaby. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 10-13 and 8-9 in conference play, while the Clan improve to 10-15 on the season and 4-13 in league play.
The Nanooks shot 40.4 percent from the floor (21-for-52), 19.0 percent from behind the arc (4-for-21) and 100 percent from the free throw line (5-for-5). Alaska tallied nine offensive and 20 defensive rebounds for a total of 29 boards on the night. The Nooks also chipped in seven assists, four steals and one block.
Alaska was led offensively by sophomore forward
Michael Kluting, who shot 7-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line to tally a team-high 17 points. Kluting also tied for a team-best seven rebounds and also added two steals in 23 minutes on the court.
Junior guard
Tre Eisenhut was the only other Alaska player to score double-digit figures on Thursday, collecting 10 points. Eisenhut shot 4-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, while also chipping in one assist against the Clan.
Senior forward
LaDonavan Wilder led his teammates in assists with three, while junior forward
Daulton Lootens contributed two offensive and five defensive boards for seven rebounds.
Simon Fraser's Kedar Salam led all players in scoring on Thursday, shooting 13-for-21 from the field, including 5-for-8 from three-point range to boast a 31-point night.
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team will look bounce back from Thursday's loss on Saturday, Feb. 17, as they take on the Western Washington Vikings in another GNAC matchup at the Sam Carver Gymnasium at 2pm AKST.
