ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening, dropping a 76-61 decision to the Central Washington Wildcats at the Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg. Alaska drops to 3-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in league contests.
Inside the Box Score
- Alaska shot 37.9 percent from the floor (22-for-58), 16.7 percent from three-point range (2-for-12) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (15-for-18).
- The Nooks pulled down 12 offensive and 27 defensive boards, totaling 39 rebounds on the night.
- The Nanooks outscored their opponent in two of the four quarters on Saturday, going 15-13 in the first and 16-13 in the second.
Alaska Leaders
- The Nanooks were led by senior forward Marian Wamsley and junior guard Sabrina Ungaro, who each tallied a team-best 17 points on the night.
- Wamsley shot 6-for-8 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line, while Ungaro shot 7-for-15 from the floor, 1-for-6 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
- Wamsley also picked up six rebounds in her 26 minutes on the court.
- Ungaro led her teammates and tied for a game-high six assists.
- Junior guard Kylie Wallace led her teammates in rebounds, picking up seven boards on the night for the Nanooks.
Next Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will take a break for the holidays and reconvene following the New Year. Alaska will host the Western Washington Vikings on Thursday, Jan. 3 before taking on the Simon Fraser Clan on Saturday, Jan. 5. Both games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Court, with Thursday's tip-off set for 5:15pm AKST and Saturday's scheduled for 1pm AKST. Both games will be the first of a double-header with Alaska Nanooks men's basketball.
