@NanooksMBB Takes on Michigan Foes at Seawolf Jamboree This Weekend

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team heads to 365 miles south to Anchorage this weekend, as the Nooks are set to compete in the Seawolf Jamboree this Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17, hosted by in-state rival Alaska Anchorage. Both Alaska games will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center with tip-off scheduled for 12pm AKST.

Seawolf Jamboree Breakdown
Like the GNAC/PacWest Crossover last weekend, the Seawolf Jamboree features two teams from one conference and two teams from another conference. The Alaska Nanooks and the UAA Seawolves both hail from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while Lake Superior State and Northwood compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Per tournament rules, the two Alaska teams will never face one another and vice versa for the two Hawaii schools.

Fans who can't make this weekend's games in Anchorage can catch both Friday and Saturday's games live through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal in the link posted above. Live stats will also be available through Stretch or through the live stats link posted above. Unfortunately, no audio commentary will be available throughout the Nanooks' games. Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season in Hawaii last weekend, competing in the GNAC/PacWest Crossover before taking on the Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans in a nonconference contest. The Nanooks dropped their season-opener 69-67 to Chaminade on Friday, Nov. 9 before falling 92-77 against the Hawaii Pacific Sharks on Saturday, Nov. 10. The Nanooks closed-out their trip to Hawaii by falling 86-80 to the UHH Vulcans on Monday, Nov. 12.

Sweet Named to GNAC/PacWest Crossover All-Tournament Team
despite going 0-2 at the GNAC/PacWest Crossover, Alaska Nanooks men's basketball's junior guard Spencer Sweet was named to the Crossover's All-Tournament Team. Sweet shot 8-for-11 from the field, including 7-for-9 from beyond the arc, and 6-for-8 from the free throw line for 29 points. The Longview, Washington native also tallied three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

All-Time Series
All-time against Lake Superior State, the Nanooks are 1-0 with their one and only meeting prior to Friday resulting in an 84-73 win for the Nanooks at home on Dec. 29, 2003.

Saturday will be the first meeting between the Nanooks and the Northwood Timberwolves.

Scouting the Opponent – Lake Superior State (0-0)
The Lakers are making their regular-season debut on Friday against the Nanooks. Last season, the Lakers went 25-8 and advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament. The Lakers lost four senior starters from last season and but will be held down by senior forward Blake Marquardt, who averaged 8.7 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Opponent – Northwood (0-2)
The Timberwolves were picked to finish last in the South Division of the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll after coming off an 11-17 overall record in 2017-18. The Timberwolves fell to Indianapolis 71-59 and to No. 1 Bellarmine (88-77) at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge in Saginaw, Michigan last weekend. Northwood is led by Alec Marty (16.0 ppg, .636 3FG%) and Jack Ammerman (14.0 ppg, 2.5 apg).

#NanookNation Needs You
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team won't be the only Fairbanks team holding it down in Anchorage this weekend, as the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team is also set to compete in the Seawolf Hoops Classic at the Alaska Airlines Center on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. Alaska is asking any Nanook fans in the Anchorage area to stay after the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball games, as the Nanook women are slated to play right afterward at 2:30pm AKST each day. The Nanooks women's basketball team takes on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday before facing the Cal State East Bay Pioneers on Saturday.
