FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a pair of wins last weekend, heading into the weekend with a 2-0 overall mark. The Nanooks will head to Anchorage this weekend, set to compete in the Seawolf Hoops Classic this Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Alaska Airlines Center, hosted by in-state rival Alaska Anchorage.

Seawolf Hoops Classic Breakdown
This year's Seawolf Hoops Classic features two Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams in the Alaska Nanooks and the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, and two California Collegiate Athletic Association teams in the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros and the Cal State East Bay Pioneers. The two Alaska schools will never face one another and vice versa for the two California programs.

Live stats will also be available through Stretch or through the live stats link posted above. Unfortunately, no audio commentary will be available throughout the Nanooks' games. Regional Season Starts Early
The Seawolf Hoops Classic provides all four teams with the opportunity to play at least two NCAA West Regional contests that will play a factor in postseason tournament selections. Moreover, with three of the four teams undefeated at 2-0 (Alaska, Alaska Anchorage and Cal State Dominguez Hills), wins will be crucial.
Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 campaign at the Gator Invite last weekend, winning both games to open the season with a 2-0 mark. The Nanooks defeated the San Francisco State University Gators 68-65 on Saturday, Nov. 10 before defeating Holy Names 79-72 on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Ungaro, Wallace Selected to Gator Invite All-Tournament Team
Following last weekend's sweep at the Gator Invite, junior guards
Sabrina Ungaro and
Kylie Wallace were both selected to the All-Tournament Team. Ungaro tallied 33 points and 11 rebounds over the weekend, while Wallace tallied 37 points and 17 rebounds.
All-Time Series
All-time against the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, Alaska trails 2-4. The first meeting between the two programs came as an 84-76 loss for the Nanooks at home on Nov. 12, 1983. Alaska is currently on a two-game losing streak against the Toros with their last meeting resulting in a 74-61 loss on the road for the Nanooks on Dec. 10, 2004.
The Nanooks are 0-1 against the East Bay Pioneers with their only meeting resulting in an 84-48 decision in favor of Cal State East Bay on Nov. 17, 2012.
Scouting the Opponent – Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-0)
The Toros defeated a pair of PacWest opponents at the CCAA/PacWest Challenge last weekend, taking down Concordia Irvine 64-50 on Friday, Nov. 9 before taking down Biola 74-65 on Saturday, Nov. 10. The LA-based team is led by senior guard Heaven Holmes (14.0 points per game average, .500 3FG%) and junior forward Dijour Ledbetter (12.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg).
Scouting the Opponent – Cal State East Bay (1-1)
Last weekend, the Pioneers hosted the Veteran's Day Classic which featured two CCAA teams and two GNAC members. East Bay defeated Western Oregon 51-47 on Friday, Nov. 9 before falling to Concordia 61-26 on Saturday, Nov. 10. Individually, East Bay is led by junior forward Morgan Greene (9.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg) and senior guard Courtenay Brown (7.0 ppg, 2.0 spg).

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team won't be the only Fairbanks team holding it down in Anchorage this weekend, as the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team is also set to compete in the Seawolf Jamboree at the Alaska Airlines Center this Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. Alaska is asking any Nanook fans in the Anchorage area to come early to the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball games, as the Nanook men are slated to play right beforehand at 12pm AKST each day. The Nanooks men's basketball team takes on Lake Superior State on Friday before facing Northwood on Saturday.
