#4 @NanooksRifle Completes Weekend Sweep of JSU with 4684-4628 Victory

FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
Senior JT Schnering posted an aggregate score of 1177 to help lead the No. 4 Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team to a 4684-4628 victory over the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range on Sunday.

Alaska outpaced their opponent in smallbore 2312-2298 before defeating JSU in air rifle 2372-2330.

The victory marks Alaska's fifth-straight win throughout the 2018-19 season, remaining undefeated. Throughout the three head-to-head matches throughout the weekend against Jacksonville State, Alaska never dropped a team score to their opponent, defeating them in smallbore, air rifle and aggregate team totals.

Additionally, the Alaska Nanooks also had one of their own be the top individual shooter overall on Thursday, Saturday and now Sunday.

Schnering placed first overall in smallbore, shooting a 583, before placing second overall in air rifle with a 594. Schnering's smallbore total of 583 was a full five points ahead of second place's, while his air rifle score was only three points behind first place.

Freshman Kellan McAferty continues to be a consistent scorer for the Nanooks, placing second overall individually with an aggregate score of 1173. McAferty posted a match-best 597 in air rifle to place first before shooting a 576 in smallbore to tie for fourth place.

Redshirt-senior Robert Scott posted his highest-ranking individual performance of the season on Sunday, collecting an aggregate score of 1168 to rank third overall. Scott tallied a 575 in smallbore before shooting a 593 in air rifle.

Juniors Amy Gentry (1164), Grace Nelson (1159) and Liam Eberhart (1158) all placed within the top-10 individually, taking the fifth through seventh place spots, respectively, while sophomore Haley Castillo placed 10th overall with an aggregate score of 1151.

The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team will take a break from competition before heading on their first road trip of the season starting Nov. 15. The Nooks will head to El Paso, Texas to face the University of Texas at El Paso Miners on Thursday, Nov. 15 before heading to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs on Friday, Nov. 16. Following their two matches in Texas, Alaska will travel to Reno, Nevada to take on the University of Nevada Wolfpack on Sunday, Nov. 18 before heading home.
