Results

FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
The No. 4 Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team improves their undefeated streak to four matches on Saturday afternoon, as the Nanooks defeated Jacksonville State 4665-4628 at the Tanana Valley Sportsman's Association.

Alaska bested their opponent in smallbore 2315-2296 before taking down the Gamecocks in air rifle 2350-2332.

"Overall, we did well for our first "away" match of the year," head coach Layne Lewis said on Saturday. "We were able to identify a couple of minor issues early on in the match and recover nicely from them, which gives me a lot of confidence for our road trip next month. There were still some great strings of 10s from everyone throughout the match, which is great to go into tomorrow. We will have to dig deep for this third match in four days, but I have confidence in all of my shooters that they will step it up and perform great tomorrow."

Rookie Kellan McAferty and senior JT Schnering tied for first overall individually, both tallying an aggregate score of 1174. McAferty placed first in air rifle with a 594 before placing second individually in smallbore with a 580. Schnering flip-flopped with McAferty, placing first overall in smallbore with a 582 before ranking second in air rifle with a 592.

Junior Liam Eberhart was the only other Alaska shooter to place in the top-five, posting an aggregate score of 1159, courtesy of a smallbore score of 577 and an air rifle total of 582.

Junior Amy Gentry (1158), redshirt-senior Robert Scott (1155) and sophomore Haley Castillo (1152) also placed within the top-10 individually, placing sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

JSU was led by David Sink, who placed third overall individually with a smallbore score of 576 and an air rifle score of 586 for a combined aggregate of 1162.

The Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team returns to the E.F. Horton Rifle Range at the Patty Center to take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in their final match of the weekend tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 28.). The first relay of the day is set for 9am AKT, while relay two is slated for 1:30pm AKT.
