FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team dropped a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday night, falling to the No. 6 Western Oregon Wolves 81-54 at the Alaska Airlines Court. The loss drops Alaska's overall record to 8-9 and 6-5 in conference matchups, while the Wolves improve to 18-1 on the season and 10-1 in league games.
Junior forward
Joe Lendway led the Nanooks on Thursday, collecting his first double-double of his career. Lendway shot 8-for-14 from the floor, 1-for-2 from beyond the arc and 1-for-1 from the free throw line to tally a game-high 18 points, while also picking up six offensive and four defensive boards for 10 rebounds. The Kansas City, Kansas native also tallied one assist in 28 minutes on the court.
Sophomore forward
Michael Kluting was the only other Alaska player to score double-digit figures on Thursday, collecting 14 points on the night. Kluting shot 5-for-12 from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range and 1-for-2 from the free throw line, while also chipping in seven rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Jalon McCullough tied his career-high six points, converting on two three-pointers. McCullough and junior guard
Davis Kimble tied for the game-high in assists, both collecting four.
As a team, the Nanooks shot 33.9 percent from the floor (19-for-56), 50 percent from behind the arc (9-for-18) and 77.8 percent from the free throw line (7-for-9). Alaska also picked up 15 assists, one block and one steal against Western Oregon.
The Wolves were led by Vince Bouemann, who shot 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-8 from the free throw line to tally a team-best 16 points.
The Alaska Nanooks will be back in action at the Alaska Airlines Court on Saturday, Jan. 27, as they host the Concordia University Cavaliers at 7:30pm AKST. Saturday's game will be the second game of an Alaska basketball double-header with the women's team, who takes the court against Western Washington at 5:15pm AKST.
