After bringing the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup home for the fourth-straight year, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team swept in-state rival the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves 4-3 and 2-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series to conclude the 2016-17 regular season. The Nanooks finished the season ranking sixth in the league standings to clinch a spot in the post-season. Alaska will head to Minnesota State Mankato for a best-of-three quarterfinal series to open up the 2017 WCHA Tournament. The Nanooks, who went 1-2-1-1 against the Mavs this season, will play Friday, Mar. 3 and Saturday, Mar. 4 with a potential third game scheduled for Sunday, Mar. 5 with puck-drop slated for 4:07pm AKST on all three nights.

  • Women's Basketball (13-14, 9-11 GNAC)
    • The Nooks were beat in a tie-breaker scenario by Central Washington to take the final 2017 GNAC Women's Basketball Conference Championship spot on Saturday night after the Nanooks fell on the road 73-70 to Simon Fraser on Thursday (Feb. 23) before dropping Saturday's contest 78-71 to Western Washington.
  • Men's Basketball (13-16, 8-12 GNAC)
    • After dropping Thursday's game 74-67 to Central Washington at home, the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team was mathematically eliminated from post-season contention. The Nanooks bounced back on Saturday though, defeating Northwest Nazarene 73-70 in their Senior Night game at their home court.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week (Feb. 27)
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks Sports Information Office declared freshman Tyler Cline(hockey) and junior Sarissa Lammers (women's Nordic ski) the male and female selections for the Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week for their performances last weekend on the ice and on the trails, respectively.

Cline posted a two-point weekend against the UAA Seawolves at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage last weekend, collecting a goal in Friday's 4-3 win before posting the game-winning assist in Saturday's 2-1 overtime victory to conclude the 2016-17 regular season and bring home the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup for the fourth-straight year. Cline is currently on a four-game point streak and has registered four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 33 games this season.

In Alaska Nordic skiing's first trip to the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Conference Championships, Lammers led the women's team in both days of competition at the Maloit Park Trails in Minturn, Colorado. In Saturday's 5km class race, Lammers was the highest-finishing Nanook of either the men's or the women's team placing eighth overall with a time of 17:24.0. On Sunday, Lammers posted a 15km freestyle time of 48:07.5 to place 12th overall, first among her teammates.
