@NanooksMBB Downs Capilano 108-60 at Chuck Randall Classic

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team snapped their two-game losing streak on Friday afternoon, defeating the Capilano University Blues 108-60 in the opening day of Western Washington's 2017 Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic at the Carver Gymnasium. The nonconference victory improves Alaska's overall record to 2-2, while Capilano falls to 1-4 on the season.

"We got off to a great start shooting the ball and had a good balance of scoring with six players in double-figures," head coach Mick Durham said on Friday. "We needed a confidence-builder after our games earlier in the week. We're excited to see how we play tomorrow against a really good West Region team in UC San Diego."

Each of the 10 players who traveled to Bellingham appeared on the scoresheet on Friday afternoon, with each of them collected no less than four points. As a team, the Nooks shot 61.9 percent from the field (39-for-63), including 56.3 percent from behind the arc (18-of-32). From the free throw line, the Nooks went 12-for-18 for 80.0 percent. Alaska's 18 three-pointer shots-made is a single-game team-high on the season.

All over the box score the Nanooks dominated on the floor, including rebounds (37-27), assists (28-14) and steals (9-6).

Of the Nanooks' six players who scored double-digit points, junior forward Joe Lendway was the only Nanooks in Saturday's game to post 20-or-more points, collecting a career-best 23 points against the Blues. Lendway shot 10-for-11 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three-point range and also went 1-for-2 from the free throw line. Lendway also pulled down a team-high eight boards and tied for a team-best four assists in 28 minutes on the court.

Junior guard Davis Kimble and junior forward Alex Baham followed Lendway's offensive efforts with 14 points each, while Baham tallied four three-point shots for game-best. Also totaling double-digit figures for the Nanooks was sophomore forward Michael Kluting (10) and redshirt-freshman Zach Hatch (13).

The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team will take on the UC San Diego Tritons in day two of the Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 25) at the Carver Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 1:30pm AKST.
