ANCHORAGE, Alaska –
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski team fell to in-state rival Alaska Anchorage in the 14th annual Nordic Cup on Sunday afternoon, posting a total time of 4:56:10.5-4:49:49.4 over the two-day event at Hatcher's Pass.

The 14th annual Nordic Cup was decided by combining Alaska and Alaska Anchorage's top-three women and top-three men's times in Saturday's 10/7.5km individual-start classic race and the top-two mixed relay teams from each program on Sunday.

The Nanooks and the Seawolves competed in the 4x5km mixed gender relay at the Independence Mine Trails on Sunday afternoon, with UAA's mixed gender relay team of Marte Hakenstad-Braten, Hailey Swirbul, Tracen Knopp and Toomas Kollo being the quickest team to cross the finish line with a time of 1:04:42.8.


Alaska's mixed relay team including sophomore Anna Darnell, Ann-Cathrin Uhl, Jan Cech and Arnaud Guyon was the second-quickest squad on Sunday, registering a time of 1:04:59.5.

UAA countered the Nanooks' relay team with a third place finish of 1:06:21.0 before the Nanooks' second relay team consisting of freshman Anja Maijala, freshman Hannah Dueling, senior Seiji Takagi and junior Max Donaldson was the second quickest Alaska squad, posting a total time of 1:06:28.7.

The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams will return to the trails following Christmas break, participating in the U.S. Cross Country National Championships  Jan. 3 and 5 in Anchorage, Alaska at the Kincaid Park Trails.
