@NanooksWBB Sweeps MSUB on the Season with 66-42 Victory

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Seniors Jordan Wilson and Kaillee Skjold both collected at least 20 points and a combined 17 rebounds on Saturday afternoon, as the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team rolled to a 66-42 Great Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets at the Alaska Airlines Court.

"We really wanted to make stops and collect rebounds today and that's what we did well today," head coach Cody Bench said on Saturday. "I like how we forced them to make tough shots, even around the basket I thought our defense was more solid tonight than it has been."

Wilson shot 9-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line to register 21 points, while also chipping in six offensive rebounds and two defensive rebounds to tally eight total on the day. Wilson's 21 point performance marks the Henderson, Colorado native's 13th game of 20-or-more points this season.

Skjold recorded a game-high nine rebounds while also shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, 1-of-1 from behind the arc and collecting 5-of-6 free throws for an even 20 points. Skjold also picked up three assists on the day.

Senior Jaylee Mays was the only other Nook to score double-digit figures with 15 points, while senior guard Victoria Milton picked up a game-high seven assists and three steals.

Alaska (10-9 overall, 6-6 GNAC) shot 43.3 percent from the floor (26-of-60), 30.8 percent from three-point territory (4-of-13) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (10-of-12) while out-rebounding their opponent 46-28 and picking up a team-high 16 assists.

Montana State Billings (6-14 overall, 3-9 GNAC) was led by Marissa Van Atta, who collected a team-high 10 points. Tiana Hanson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while the Yellowjackets shot 32.8 percent from the floor (19-of-58).

Despite not putting a point on the board until the five minute mark of the first quarter, Alaska went on a five-point lead of their own and officially took the lead at the 3:14 mark of the first. After that, the Yellowjackets weren't able to ever capture the lead again.

Holding MSUB to less than 20 points until the seven minute mark of the third quarter, Alaska continued to hold on to the momentum, taking a game-high 29 point lead in the fourth quarter. The win marks a season sweep over MSUB for the Alaska women's basketball team, as the Nooks defeated the Yellowjackets 71-53 on their home court on Dec. 29.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team continues their homestead next week, taking on the Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday, Feb. 2 before facing the Concordia Cavaliers on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off Thursday is scheduled for 7:30pm AKST, while Saturday's contest is slated for 1pm AKST.
