No. 2 Seawolves Defeat @NanooksWBB in GNAC Road Game

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Senior forward Kaillee Skjold scored a team-high 17 points but the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak come to an end, as the No. 2-ranked Alaska Anchorage Seawolves defeated the Nooks 89-48 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest at the Alaska Airlines Center on Tuesday night.

The loss drops Alaska to 9-9 on the year and 5-6 in conference games, while Alaska Anchorage improves to 18-1 overall and 11-0 in GNAC play, continuing their undefeated conference record.

"Our defense just wasn't quite there tonight," head coach Cody Bench said following Tuesday's game. "UAA has a lot of threats offensively but we also failed to make important stops. We were not at our best tonight."

Skjold's 17-point performance is the Kasilof, Alaska native's 14th game throughout the season with double-digit points. Skjold shot an even 50 percent on her field goal attempts on Tuesday night, as she went 7-of-14 from the field. Skjold also added three free throws and a team-high eight rebounds in 31 minutes on the court.

Fellow senior forward Jordan Wilson recorded her 18th-straight game scoring double-digit figures, collecting 13 points against the Seawolves. Wilson shot 5-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line, while also chipping in four rebounds and three assists.

Alaska shot 38.3 percent from the floor (18-of-47) against their in-state rival on Tuesday, while Alaska Anchorage posted a 47.8 shooting percentage from the field (32-of-67). The Nanooks were barely outrebounded by the Seawolves 39-31 in a contest that only saw two lead changes.

UAA was led by Autummn Williams, who shot 7-of-17 from the floor, 2-of-7 from the three-point line and 5-of-6 from the free throw line to lead all players with 21 points.

The Nanooks defense held up in the first quarter, as Alaska only trailed by 17-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Seawolves got away from the Nanooks in the second half, outscoring Alaska 25-11 going into intermission. Wilson fought off the UAA defenders in the third quarter, as the Nooks ended the third tying their opponent in scoring 19-19. Unfortunately, Anchorage outshout Alaska 28-8 to seal the conference victory 89-48.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will be back in action at home this upcoming Saturday, hosting the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Alaska Airlines Court. Tip-off is slated for 3pm AKST.
