@NanooksWBB Falls in Overtime to the Crusaders

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss on Thursday night, falling 84-77 to the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest at the Alaska Airlines Court. The Nooks drop their overall record to 6-8 and 2-5 in conference play, while the Crusaders improve to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in the GNAC.

Northwest Nazarene's connected on a good layup with five seconds remaining the fourth quarter to send Alaska into their first overtime since Nov. 18 at CSU-Pueblo. The overtime period would not prove favorable for the Nanooks, as the Crusaders scored 18 points in the final frame to seal the conference victory.

Senior forward Jordan Wilson led all-players for the second-consecutive game with 24 points, as she knocked down two free throws and connected on 11-of-15 shots from the field for a conference-high on Thursday. Wilson's 24-point night marks her sixth-straight game of 20-or-more points. The Thornton, Colorado native also added two rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal on the day.

Senior forward Kaillee Skjold followed Wilson's lead, registering 22 points and 12 rebounds, including five offensive rebounds, to tally her seventh double-double of the season, a new conference high for 2016-17. Skjold shot 8-of-17 from the field, 5-of-7 from the free throw line and drained one three-point bucket on the night. The Kasilof, Alaska native also collected four assists, one block and a game-high five steals.

Not to be overshadowed, senior guard Gabriela Jimenez recorded a career-high 12 points off the bench, shooting 5-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free throw line. Jimenez's record night also included two rebounds, two assists and three steals, all career-record numbers for the Thornton, Colorado native.

The Nanooks were able to force 28 turnovers on the night, but the Crusaders outdid the Nanooks in points off of turnovers 28-19. As a team, Alaska shot 40.8 percent from the field (29-of-71) and only 55.2 percent from the free throw line (16-of-29).

Northwest Nazarene shot 42.5 percent from the floor (31-of-73), including 71.4 percent from the field in overtime alone to pull away from the Nanooks. The Crusaders were led by Ellie Logan's 17-point performance but it was Lexi Tubbs who collected the only other double-double of the game, registering 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 14 as they take on the Central Washington Wildcats in another Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup at the Alaska Airlines Court. Tip-off is slated for 7pm AKST.
