FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Friday, Alaska Nanooks men's basketball head coach Mick Durham announced his third signee to the 2016 signing class, as Diablo Valley's Spencer Clark signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Nooks starting in 2016-17. The junior college transfer will have two years of eligibility with Alaska.
Clark, a 6-4 forward, averaged 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds for Diablo Valley, who plays in the California Community College Athletic Association. Clark earned All-Big 8 Conference first team honors, as he helped his team to a 14-14 overall mark. He comes from the same junior college that produced former Nanook standout Ronnie Baker.
"Spencer will add experience for us at both guard and forward positions," said Durham. "His ability to run the floor and defend multiple positions will be a great asset for us. I believe Spencer's best basketball is ahead of him as he continues to develop offensively. He continues to grow and mature as a player. He is a very determined young man both on and off the court and we're excited he chose Alaska."
The Pittsburg, California native was second on the team in scoring and rebounding. Clark tallied double-digits in the scoring column in 13 contests this past season. He scored a season-best 23 points on Feb. 2 at American River. He posted one double-double on the year with 14 points and a season-high 10 rebounds in his last game in a Viking uniform against Cosumnes River on Feb. 16.
Clark becomes the third player to sign with the Nanooks during the spring signing period. Scottsdale Community College's Trent Molesworth was the first player to sign, while NCAA Division I transfer, Nahjee Matlock signed to play for Alaska earlier this week after one year at Montana State.
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team is coming off an outstanding 22-8 season, that saw the program reach its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship game, and set a program record for most GNAC wins in a season with 15. The Nooks were recently selected as HERO Sports NCAA Division II Breakout Team of the Year.
