FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks saw their two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night, as the Nooks fell to the Bowling Green Falcons 6-3 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest at the Carlson Center. The Nooks drop their overall record to 6-12-2 and 5-9-2-2 in conference play, while the Falcons improve to 9-11-2 overall, 8-7-1-0 WCHA.

"We knew they would come out a lot harder tonight than they did last night, we knew it was going to be a battle but I just don't think we had the intensity or pace that we had last night," assistant coach Lance West said following Saturday's game. "Give them a lot of credit, they came at us hard with five guys and a lot of pressure and they played a great game and we did not. We kept finding a way to stay close and get the next one but they would answer back and get the next one. They were able to sustain a lot of pressure offensively and we tip our hats to them but we didn't have the jump we needed to stay with them for a full 60 minutes."

Bowling Green's Jacob Dalton scored an unassisted goal to open the game at the 12:56 mark, capitalizing on a failed breakout by the Nooks to make it 0-1.

Four minutes later, senior forward Marcus Basara scored to tie the game at 1-1 with assists awarded to freshman forward Tyler Cline and sophomore forward Chad Staley. Staley passed the puck off to Cline in the neutral zone, who tried to get a shot off that was blocked by a Falcon defender. Cline continued to pursue the puck in the corner and dished it to Basara, who was crashing the net for a quick wrister past BGSU goaltender Ryan Bednard. The goal improves Basara's current point-streak to four games.

Late in the first period, BGSU's Matt Pohlkamp gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission with an even-strength goal at 19:27.

Junior defenseman Zach Frye tied the game at 2-2 at the 7:39 mark of the second period, sniping from the top of the circle on a 4-on-3 power play. Frye's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Staley, who recorded his second assist of the night, and freshman forward Colton Leiter.

The Falcons answered with a late second period goal by Connor McDonald (18:54) and an early third period goal by Mitch McLain (1:07). Both goals were at even-strength to make it 4-2 early in the final period of play, with assists given to Brett D'Andrea, Jacob Dalton and Tyler Spezia.

Freshman forward Troy Van Tetering scored Alaska's third and final goal of the night at the 11:39 mark of the third period. Sophomore defenseman Jack Weiss kicked the puck across the blueline to his fellow-sophomore defenseman Nikolas Koberstein, who rifled a wrist-shot on Bednard. Bednard wasn't able to corral the loose puck, with Van Tetering able to fight off a BGSU defender to bury the rebound.

Bowling Green scored two more goals in the third period, with Frederic Letourneau and Kevin Defour each tallying an even-strength goal to seal the Falcons' victory 6-3.

Alaska's sophomore goaltender Jesse Jenks made 33 saves on the night, only six saves shy of his career personal-best with the Nanooks. On the other side of the ice, Bednard collected 15 saves for the Falcons.

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team will take a break for the holidays and return to action in South Bend, Indiana to take on former Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) foe Notre Dame in a two-game nonconference series on Saturday, Dec. 31 and Sunday, Jan. 1.
