EL PASO, Texas –
After a two-week hiatus, the Alaska Nanooks rifle team returned to the range on Friday morning by defeating the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Miners 4,662 – 4,600. The Nooks were led by their two co-captains, as redshirt-junior Sagen Maddalena and senior Soren Butler posted the top-two individual overall scores of the day.

"Today's match was a little rough, but we all learned something from today and we can carry into our match against Nevada on Sunday," interim head coach Layne Lewis said on Friday. "I'm really proud of how our leadership group stepped up today, with Soren and Sagen taking the top-two overall spots."

The Nanooks claimed four of the top-five overall individual spots, with Maddalena posting an aggregate score of 1,175. The Groveland, California native posted the meet's highest score in air rifle with a 595 and tied for first in smallbore with junior Luke Johnson, each registering a 580.
