SEATTLE – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team concluded the 2016 season on Saturday night, falling to the Seattle Pacific Falcons in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match in three sets. The Nanooks end their 2016 campaign 3-24 overall and 2-18 in GNAC play, while the Falcons sit at 11-17 overall and 7-13 in conference play.
"Tonight was not our night. We weren't able to make some of the same defensive plays we did last night and I think that really hurt us in the long-run," head coach Brian Scott said following Saturday's game. "SPU did a good job of overcoming any good plays we had, which, in turn, made us get back to work. They were able to reset and refocus a lot quicker than we were."
As a team, the Nanooks posted 24 kills off of 100 total attacks, totally 24 errors for an even .000 hitting percentage on the night. The Nooks collected 34.0 points, 24 kills, five aces, five blocks, 22 assists and 45 digs against the SPU Falcons.
Junior outside hitter Angela Molesworth paced the Nanooks' offense on Saturday night, posting eight kills and a team-high hitting percentage of .222. Sophomore outside hitter Amberly Jeane followed closely behind Molesworth, tallying six kills while also chipping in one service ace, one solo block, one block assist and six digs for 7.5 points.
Junior middle blocker Riley Podowicz held a team-high of two service aces against SPU, while also chipping in three kills, three block assists and one dig. Junior setter Rachel Nichols dished a team-high 20 assists, while also fending off nine digs. Furthermore, redshirt-senior libero Meagan Olsen posted a game-high 15 digs on the night.
