@NanooksWBB Sweeps in West Region Challenge, Defeats CSU-LA 75-59

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team had a clean sweep in the West Region Challenge after defeating the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles 75-59 on Saturday afternoon at the Alaska Airlines Court. The Nooks hold a 2-0 overall record, while the Eagles drop to 0-2 overall.

Senior Autumn Childers led the Nanooks' offense, scoring 17 points on the day. Childers went 6-9 from the field, 3-5 in three-point attempts and 2-2 from the free-throw line, while also picking up one rebound and one steal in 30 minutes of play.

Senior Kaillee Skjold produced her third-straight double-double of the season, collecting 14 rebounds and 13 points. Skjold shot 4-14 from the field and 5-6 from the free-throw line, while picking up 14 defensive rebounds for the Nooks. Skjold also chipped in five assists and one block to help the Nanooks pick up their second-straight win.

As a team, the Nooks shot 44.2% (19-43) in field goal percentage, 50% in three-point attempts (5-10) and 82.1% (32-39) in free-throw attempts. Alaska registered 32 rebounds, 12 assists and seven steals to take down the Eagles.

Seniors Jordan Wilson and Jaylee Mays also scored double-digit figures for Alaska, as both recorded 11 points each. Wilson posted eight assists and most notably went 9-9 from the free-throw line, while Mays contributed two jump-shots and four free-throws.

Newcomers Sanni Salonen and Alex Derifield also logged decent minutes for the Nanooks, as Derifield dished two assists and Salonen registered eight points and four rebounds.

The Golden Eagles shot 23-54 (42.6%) from the field, 2-12 (16.7%) in three-point attempts and 11-21 in free-throws (52.4%). Cal State LA was led by Rikke Fabricius, who posted a game-high 18 points, while Da'Jah Jackson chipped in 13 points for the Golden Eagles.

The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team hits the road next week for two non-conference games in Colorado. The Nooks face the Colorado State University at Pueblo Huskies on Friday, Nov. 18 at 3pm AKST before taking on the Western State Colorado University on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 11am AKST.
