FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Senior co-captain
Sagen Maddalena led all shooters in Friday's match against Ohio State University, but it wasn't enough for the Alaska Nanooks rifle team to take the team win, as they fell to the Buckeyes 4677-4670.
"Little rough match today, but as a team, we are still hitting our stride," interim head coach Layne Lewis said following the match. "There were some really great moments today individually and I think going into tomorrow's match, we can be much more cohesive unit."
Maddalena posted the day's best smallbore and air rifle scores of the match, registering a 587 in smallbore and 596 in air rifle for a combined total of 1183. Maddalen's score of 1183 is only two points away from her personal-best aggregate score of 1185, which she recorded on Feb. 18 earlier this year versus UTEP.
Ohio State's Josh Black recorded the next highest score of the day, posting an aggregate score of 1175 with a smallbore score of 583 and an air rifle score of 592. Ohio State captured second through fifth place individually overall with scores from Mark Matheny (1173), Rhiann Travis (1171) and Drew Cheezum (1170).
