@NanooksWBB Has Four-Game Home Winning Streak Come to an End against No. 2 Seawolves

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Junior Jordan Wilson scored a game-high 20 points, but the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team had its four-game home winning streak come to an end, as No. 2-ranked Alaska Anchorage defeated the Nooks, 82-56, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night.

The loss drops Alaska to 9-12 on the year and 4-7 in GNAC games. Meanwhile for Alaska Anchorage, who dropped to No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll before the start of Tuesday's contest, they improve to 23-1 and 10-1 in league contests.

"UAA is a really good team," said head coach Cody Bench. "They have a lot of weapons and play really nice defense. We were under our season average is turnovers tonight, and against the kind of pressure they bring at you, that's all you can ask for. For Jordan to get 20 points against that defense is amazing. Marian Wamsley almost had double-digits as well. UAA plays with a lot of pressure, so it was good for us to get a lot of players in this game and handle their pressure."

Wilson's 20-point performance marks her 19th-straight game with double-digit points. The streak is now the longest active double-digit scoring streak in the GNAC. The junior hit an even 50 percent of her field goal attempts on Tuesday night, as she went 8-of-16 from the field. Wilson also hit her lone 3-point field goal attempt, which marked her first trifecta in a game since Dec. 3 at Western Washington.

Junior Kaillee Skjold recorded her fourth-straight double-digit scoring game with 14 points. The Kasilof, Alaska native hit seven of her 15 field goal attempts against the No. 2-ranked team in the nation, and tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Wilson was one rebound off Skjold's pace, as she collected six caroms on the night.

The freshman Wamsley took a big step in her collegiate development on Tuesday night, as she set a new career high in points and rebounds against Alaska Anchorage. The Valdez, Alaska native came off the bench to post nine points and grabbed seven boards in a career-high 19 minutes of action.

Alaska shot 35.4 percent against the Seawolves on Tuesday, while UAA posted a 41.5 shooting percentage. The Nanooks held GNAC Preseason Player of the Year Megan Mullings to just seven points.

The No. 2-ranked team in the country led for nearly the entire contest. Alaska took a 1-0 lead to open the game, but the Seawolves would roll off eight-straight points to take an 8-1 lead and never looked back. UAA built its advantage to as high as 33 point on Tuesday night, before capturing the 26-point victory.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Nanooks, as they hit the road for a contest against Montana State Billings on Thursday night. Tip-off from Billings, Montana is set for 5 p.m.
