Skjold Records 20-Point Outing in Loss at Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Junior Kaillee Skjold posted her second 20-plus point performance of this season on Saturday by scoring a game-high 20 points in an, 83-57, loss at Central Washington, as the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team ends its brief Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip 0-2.

Saturday's 20-point performance marks the fourth time in her career that Skjold has scored 20-or-more points in a game. It is also the second time this season that she has registered 20-plus points in a game, as she set a career-high with 30 points at Simon Fraser back on Dec. 5, 2015.

Despite Skjold's performance, the Nanooks could not overcome a Central Washington team that shot a season-high 57.6 percent from the floor. The loss drops Alaska to 7-11 on the year and 2-6 in conference games, while CWU moves to 11-5 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC.

Junior Jordan Wilson also recorded double-digits in the scoring column on Saturday, as she scored 13 points. The 13-point performance extends her career-long double-digit scoring streak to 16 games. The last time Wilson did not post double digits points in a game was back on Nov. 14, 2015.

Freshman Marian Wamsley led the team in rebounding for the second-straight game, as she came off the bench to pull down five boards in 12 minutes of action.

The Nooks were able to get 13 steals on the day, as they have now collected double-digit steals in each of their last three contests. Junior Jaylee Mays tallied a game-high four steals in the loss.

Central Washington led from beginning to end on Saturday, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game. Alaska could only manage 10 points in the opening frame, as they faced a double-digit deficit, 24-10, at the end of the first stanza.

The Nooks pulled within single digits, 26-18, at the 8:19 mark of the second quarter, after a Gabriela Jimenez 3-point field goal. Alaska kept its single-point deficit until the 4:13 mark, when Central Washington began a 9-0 run that saw its lead extend to 18 points with 2:37 remaining in the quarter. McKenzie Day hit a layup with 10 seconds remaining to give the Wildcats a 47-31 lead, and that would be the margin of difference for the Nooks going into the break.

Central Washington maintained its double-digit advantage for the remainder of the third and fourth quarters, as their lead ballooned all the way to 26 points to hand the Nanooks an 83-57 defeat.

Alaska returns to the friendly confines of the Alaska Airlines Court next Thursday, as they open a three-game GNAC home stand. The Nooks open the home stand with a matchup against Saint Martin's. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
