Beck Re-Signs with ECHL's Idaho Steelheads

BOISE, Idaho -- On Thursday, Former Alaska Nanooks hockey standout Colton Beck agreed to terms with the Idaho Steelheads of the East Coast Hockey League.

Beck, who was giving a qualifying offer from Idaho back in July, re-signs with the Steelheads after posting 49 points – 18 goals, 31 assists – during his rookie campaign last season. In the 2014-15 season, Beck tallied five game-winning goals, which was the second-most the ECHL for rookies. The former Nanook came on strong in the stretch run for the Steelheads, as he collected 28 points in the team's final 28 regular season games. His outstanding effort continued into the playoffs, as he posted four goals in the ECHL first round series against Utah Grizzlies, which the Steelheads lost in six games.

For his efforts, the forward was given the Idaho 'Unsung Hero' award at the conclusion of the regular season. The Idaho Steelheads are based in Boise, Idaho and are an affiliate of the NHL Dallas Stars and AHL Texas Stars. They were founded in 1997 and joined the ECHL in 2003.

Beck played for Alaska from 2010-14. He was named team captain during his senior campaign and was the 31st player in program history to enter the 100-point club. The Langley, British Columbia native ended his career with 101 career points, 42 goals and 59 assists and was named to the All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association second team during his senior season after he finished second in the WCHA in assists with 23.

The 2015-16 edition of the Alaska Nanooks hockey team gets underway on Sept. 26, with its annual Blue/Gold game. The Nanooks are coming off their third-straight winning season, as they finished 19-13-2. The 19 wins were the most in a single season since the 2005-06 campaign, when the Nanooks went 19-16-5.
