Box Score BURNABY, B.C. – Alaska was defeated, 81-62, by Simon Fraser on Saturday night in British Columbia. Benissa Bulaya led the way for the Nanooks with 18 points.
The Nanooks slip to 13-13 overall and 5-11 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in defeat, while Simon Fraser, who has already clinched a playoff berth, improves to 14-11 on the season and 10-7 in league play.
The Clan was led by Erin Chambers and Meg Wilson, who scored 25 and 16 points respectively. Chambers also had a joint team-high seven rebounds
Bulaya also grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists and had a steal while Kaillee Skjold had a game-high eight rebounds to go with nine points and a steal.
Victoria Elleby came off the bench to also score nine points for Alaska, including one of Alaska's two made 3-point field goals. Skjold contributed the other, as the Nanooks struggled from beyond the arc.
Conversely, Simon Fraser hit 11 3-pointers on the night, which was the difference as the game was even in most other categories. Alaska outrebounded the Clan, 39-34 and the teams matched each other for points in the paint at 30-24 (SFU) and points off of turnovers 16-13 (SFU).
Alaska returns home to close out its season with a pair of GNAC games against Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific. Saturday's game against SPU will serve as Senior Night as the Nanooks will honor its two seniors in Bulaya and Kelly Logue.
