Morley’s Make It a Family Affair in 5-2 Loss to Northern Michigan

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Family weekend could not have came at a better time for the Morley brothers, as they put on a show in front of their parents and several other family members this weekend, as Tyler and Brandon each scored a goal for the Alaska Nanooks hockey team in Saturday's 5-2 loss against Northern Michigan.

Senior captain Tyler Morley, who became the most recent member of the Nanooks hockey 100-point club, was scored his team's first goal for the second-straight night, but unlike Friday, T. Morley's first score came with the Nanooks (3-5-0, 1-3-0 WCHA) already down 3-0 to Northern Michigan (4-3-3, 3-2-1 WCHA) midway through the second period.

The Wildcats were able to take advantage of their power play opportunities early in the game, as their first three goals came while Alaska had a player in the box. Conversely, it was Alaska who was unable to convert on its power plays, as they were unable to take advantage of a pair of 5-3 advantages and went 0-for-6 in power player attempts on the night.

After another pair of scores gave Northern Michigan a 5-1 lead, Brandon Morley was able to get a short-handed goal seven minutes into the third period, as he and his brother Tyler raced down the ice to create a two-on-one situation. The Morley's were able to blow past the defense as Brandon fired a shot from the left circle to get a goal, while Tyler picked up an assist on the play.

Saturday's contest marks the sixth time that the Morley's have scored in the same game. Ironically, four of those six games have come against the Wildcats during their three years together.

Saturday's contest was a physical affair that featured 18 penalties and two ejections. Each team was charge with nine penalties on the night.

Alaska will be back in action next Friday, as they open a two-week WCHA road trip to Bemidji State and Ferris State. Alaska will take on the Beavers on Nov. 13 and 14. The Friday contest will start at 4:37 AKST while Saturday's affair will start at 4:07 p.m.
