Sherry Lifts Alaska Rifle Over Air Force Academy

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The No. 2 nationally ranked Alaska Nanook rifle team walked away with its second victory of the season after defeating the United States Air Force Academy at the E. F. Horton Rifle Range Sunday morning. The Nanooks posted a season-high 4711 to the Falcons' 4684.

Senior Tim Sherry led the Nanooks to victory, as he was the top scoring individual of the day, shooting an impressive 1184. Alaska had three Nanooks in the top five, including Sophomore Sagen Maddalena taking second place overall with her score of 1179 and Senior Lorelie Stanfield shooting 1176, giving her fouth place.

Air Force's David Higgins was their highest placing shooter of the day, placing third overall with a score of 1178.

Sophomore Luke Johnson placed seventh in today's match, shooting 1171. Junior Soren Butler placed eighth with his score of 1169, with Freshman JT Schnering placing ninth with a score of 1167.

In smallbore, Sherry led all shooters today posting the highest individual score of 587/600. Stanfield followed Sherry, posting a second place finish shooting a 586 and Maddalena placing third with a score of 585.

Rounding out the top ten individual smallbore results amongst Nanooks was Johnson (584), Butler (581), Schnering (581) and Senior Alexis Nardone (575) placing fifth, seventh, eighth and tenth respectively.

In air rifle, Sherry once again stole the spotlight, placing first shooting a 597/600. Sherry was followed by Maddalena, who shot a 594 and captured second place individually in air rifle. Stanfield (590), Freshman Nathan Taylor (589) and Soren Butler (588) rounded out the Nanooks who placed within the top ten.

The Alaska Nanooks return to the rifle range Thursday, November 5th when they travel to Akron, Ohio to take on the University of Akron Zippers.
