ANCHORAGE – The Nanook women's basketball team's winning streak came to an end on Saturday night, as it fell, 87-62 to No. 5 nationally ranked Alaska Anchorage in an instate Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivalry game.

Kaille Skjold and Benissa Bulaya each had 11 points to lead the Nanooks while Daron Mainville had ten points.

Jessica Madison scored 15 points to lead five Seawolves in double-digits.

"We faced a tough team tonight, but I thought we were really strong in the second half," said head coach Cody Bench. "I am proud of our effort tonight. We were missing some players and a lot of girls stepped up."

The Nanooks trailed 51-18 at the half, but outplayed Anchorage in the second period, as they outscored the Seawolves 44-36 over those 20 minutes. In the second half, Mainville scored all 10 of her points while Skjold scored nine of her 11.

Protecting the rim was a big part of the half, as the Nanooks had seven blocks with Skjold and Stephanie Toumson each recording three.

Alaska will now return home as they host Simon Fraser and Western Washington on January 22 and January 24, respectively.
