FAIRBANKS-For the second year in a row, the Blue/Gold hockey game was decided by a shootout. Tallies from sophomore right wing

Colton Parayko in the extra session, sealed a 2-1 win for Team Gold. Junior right wing
Alec Hajdukovich scored in the shootout for Team Blue.
The two squads battled to a 0-0 game until junior right wing
Nolan Huysmans opened scoring at 19:43 of the second half, putting Team Blue up 1-0. The teams played two halves under a 25-minute running clock. Hajdukovich and senior defenseman
Nolan Kaiser assisted on the tally. Freshman forward
Peter Krieger answered just less than three minutes later, when he deposited the rebound of a Parayko slap shot at 22:50 of the second. Parayko appeared to score the game-winner with 26 seconds remaining, but the goal was waved off due to goaltender interference.

Sean Cahill made 15 saves for Team Gold, while sophomore
Davis Jones stopped 10 shots for Team Blue. Junior
John Keeney made six saves while splitting time in net between both teams.

Dallas Ferguson was pleased with the effort, and happy to see his team come out of the night healthy.
"It's always positive to come out of these scrimmages without injuries," Ferguson said. "The game tempo was awesome, with plenty of scoring chances. It was good to evaluate the structure and pace of the play. It was about what we expected."
In between periods, players took the ice in a variety of skills competitions. Senior forward
Nolan Youngmun edged Parayko to defend his fastest skater title. Jones led the way in the shootout competition, earning eight saves, while pitching a shutout. A pair of defenseman put up triple digits in the hardest shot challenge. Freshman blue liner
Kyle Froese hit 100 MPH with his slap shot from the hash marks. Only to be out done by Parayko, whose clapper was clocked at 101 MPH, as the captain claimed the title for 2014.
The exhibition season continues for the Nanooks, as they host the Mustangs of Western Ontario University October 3
rd at the Carlson Center. Puck drops at 7:07 on the Olympic size ice.
